Oregon Coast to have all
Oregon Parks Forever and David's Chair Outdoor Mobility Systems announced Monday the release of electric, all-terrain wheelchairs for free use on the Oregon Coast. The chairs, which boost accessibility for visitors with mobility challenges, will be available to pick up and use for free in Manzanita and Seaside starting in early May.
The chairs will be located at the Manzanita Visitor's Center and at the Seaside Elks Lodge. The chair in Seaside will be available May 1, and the chair in Manzanita will be available May 5.
Any person with mobility impairments requiring the use of wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, canes or crutches will be able to reserve and use the chairs for free at davidschair.org
According to the news release, the chairs will open up "activities never-before possible" for mobility-impaired visitors. The chairs, which are equipped with revolving tracks on either side, are able to go across sand and rocks, allowing people to visit the water's edge and enjoy Oregon beaches.
Oregon Parks Forever and David's Chair are working to find locations for 10 chairs throughout the Interstate 5 corridor and Oregon Coast over the next couple years, the news release said.
