Alle-Kiski HOPE Center accepting pet photo contest entries

Entries are now being accepted for the pet photo contest sponsored by the Alle-Kiski Area HOPE Center as part of its Mutts, Meows and Margaritas event set for Sept. 9.

To place your entry and cast your vote, stop in at Ringer’s Pet Center, 3041 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Harrison. Voting cans will be taken to the event at the Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars so voting can continue. The winning dog and cat will receive a trophy and bragging rights.

Community members needed by Apollo Events Committee

The Apollo Events Committee is looking for residents to join the group to plan and help out at community events in the borough.

Local churches collecting used mobility aides

Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, and Bethel United Methodist Church in Lower Burrell are collecting canes, crutches, walkers, shower chairs and manual wheelchairs to be donated to Global Links, a charity that works to redirect still-useful materials away from landfills to support public health programs in targeted communities throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Central Church is acting as a collection point for the collection. Clean items can be dropped off through Thursday at Central Church, 305 Allegheny St. For details, call the church at 724-224-9220 or visit Central Presbyterian Church on Facebook.

Today: St. James Parish 109 Owens View Ave., will have an outdoor Mass at 4:30 p.m. on the church lawn. Bring a chair or blanket. Today and Sunday: Roaring Run Watershed Association will host A Walk Through History Civil War event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the covered bridge area of Roaring Run Trail. A shuttle will be available for those who unable to walk that far. There will be demonstrations of cannons, weapons and Civil War cooking, a children’s battle and reenactors. Oct. 14: The Arnold Recreation Committee is accepting vendor applications for a craft show and touch-a-truck event set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 18th Street ball field. Details: [email protected].

East Vandergrift

Sunday: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish will celebrate Mass at 11 a.m. on the lawn in front of the grotto at the church, 411 McKinley Ave. Bring a folding chair or blanket. Indiana Township

Sunday: The Allegheny County Summer Concert Series at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater will feature jazz with John Scofield and Jason Kush at 7:30 p.m. Food trucks will open at 6 p.m. Rain or shine. A $20 per vehicle fee will benefit the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.

Kiski Township

Sunday: Apollo-Ridge Girls Soccer team will sponsor a Barbeque Bash from 2 to 5 p.m. at Apollo-Spring Church Sportsmen’s Club.
